Our starting point is listening, of the body and through the body.
Only in this way can we cultivate the breath as the foundation and structure of movement, a synthesis of the physical and mental space of practice.
In this perspective, asanas are the means that help us feel, keeping the nervous system stable and in balance.
In the book “Ashtanga Yoga. Body, breath, movement in the practice of vinyasa “, written together with Stefania Valbusa, I propose an innovative and original method to the practice of Ashtanga Yoga that first comes out of the idea of sequence and of Ashtanga itself to understand the universal laws and harmonies of body in motion, and then return to the sequence with the awareness of the logic that delineates it and makes it unique.
Starting from my background as an Ashtanga Yoga teacher – who integrated Dona Holleman’s Iyengar Yoga and Centered Yoga experience in almost 25 years of practice and teaching – I propose an asana and pranayama program with a broader horizon that captures the dynamics of subtle system, straddling the intuitions of the ancients and the most modern reflections on myofascial meridians and the polyvagal theory.
I am waiting for you to discover together a new way of practicing Ashtanga Yoga, in constant balance between action and listening, visible movement and subtle body, practice and meditation, through the experience of the energetic movement generated by the breath.
Practitioners of all levels are welcome.
Mysore Style practice and guided classes of the First Series and the Intermediate Series, Pranayama and three in-depth technical workshops dedicated to understanding the integration between the different levels of the muscular system, breathing and subtle energy processes, in the key steps of the sequence, in the transitions and in the decoding of complex asanas.
Stefania Valbusa, also authorized by Sharath Jois and co-author of the book, will accompany me in this workshop. Together, for over 10 years, we have been guiding students and practitioners to discover the yoga practice in our shala in Turin, Yoga Sutra Studio – Ashtanga Yoga Turin.

Gian Renato Marchisio, a yoga practitioner for more than twenty years, has a background as a teacher in the Iyengar Yoga and Centered Yoga methods of Dona Hollemann, and has also been authorized to teach Ashtanga Yoga by Manju Pattabhi Jois, as well as by Sharath Jois: this path allowed him to develop a complete approach to practice, respectful of tradition but also attentive to the technical-anatomical aspects of the distribution of forces in the body to acquire stability in the flow through breathing.
Stefania Valbusa, formerly Dona Hollemann’s Centered Yoga teacher, is authorized by Sharath Jois to teach traditional Ashtanga Yoga. During her career she also received from Kristina Karitinos-Ireland the certificate of recognition for teaching Ashtanga Yoga according to the teaching of Derek Ireland. He is a certified coach and integrates technical teaching with the study of the energetic and emotional aspects of the practice.
In addition to regular classes in their Turin shala, Gian Renato and Stefania conduct seminars in Italy.
