MOVE INTO STILLNESS ASHTANGA AND YIN YOGA RETREAT WITH RíONACH O’FLYNN

11-18 May 2024

Description of the retreat

This retreat offers students of all levels the time and space to immerse themselves in yoga in a supportive and compassionate environment. Mornings will start with Ashtanga Mysore-style self-practice (except on Friday when we’ll have a full Led Primary class).

Experienced practitioners will enjoy all the guidance they need, with adjustments if desired. If you are new to the Ashtanga Vinyasa practice, you will be introduced to the system and leave the retreat with a self-practice you can take home with you. You’ll have plenty of free time during the day to enjoy the wonderful facilities at Agricola Samadhi and explore the local area.

During late afternoon classes, you will discover (if you haven’t already) just how beautifully Yin Yoga works with Ashtanga. After the dynamic, challenging, breath-fuelled and energetic flow of your morning Ashtanga practice, you can observe how your body and mind adjust to a completely different kind of challenge: the long, slow holds of Yin Yoga.

With no hierarchy of poses or sequences, Yin teaches you to be quiet, patient and let go, allowing for deep release of tension in the body and quieting the mind.

While we love to move through the asana practice, a truly authentic yoga practice is about so much more than what the body can do.

So, during the afternoons on this retreat, there will be ample time and space for Meditation, Pranayama/Breathing practice, Yoga Nidra and discussion, where you’ll learn more about the science and philosophy of yoga and why developing the Tapas, or discipline, to get on the mat is such a powerful tool for life.

RíONACH O’FLYNN

Rionach O'Flynn

Ríonach has been practising yoga for over twenty-five years and teaches asana, pranayama, meditation classes, and teacher training courses from her studio in Ireland.

With a great love for yoga philosophy and the Ashtanga Vinyasa practice, she teaches it in an accessible, adaptive and non-dogmatic way, encouraging each student to develop a self-practice that works for their unique body and stage of life.

Her practice has been informed and inspired by her intensive study periods with some of the world’s leading Ashtanga teachers, including Guy Donahaye, Lino Miele, David Swenson and Richard Freeman.

Her pranayama and meditation practice has greatly benefited from her studies with Kia Naddermier.

However, the practice itself – the daily ritual of getting on the mat, moving with the breath and paying attention to what arises in body and mind – has been her greatest teacher.

Ríonach loves to share all aspects of the practice with her students so that they see that while there are extraordinary physical benefits to the practice, the real value of yoga is the calm and clarity it brings to the mind.
