Animal & Natural Movement
Teacher Training: Zoé Animal Yoga®
with Enrico De Luca

August 29 – September 5, 2020

Description of the retreat

Zoé Animal Yoga® is a method of training and research on human movement that integrates Yoga, Animal Flow (animal locomotion) Acro Balance, Primal Movement, Calisthenics and Functional CrossTraining. Inspired by the rhythms of animal and primordial nature in the multiplicity of functional needs of human movement, this training methodology uses a wide range of free-body locomotion movements involving all muscle groups simultaneously, optimizing neuro-motor control and improving mobility and joint stability. The intense and fervent dynamism that characterizes this practical experience rapidly develops strength, agility, flexibility and resistance, accompanying the practitioner towards the exploration and (re) discovery of ancient and new archetypes of movement, favoring the natural overcoming of one’s own psychophysical limits imposed by the continuous mortification of the body and its expression perpetuated by the unhealthy habits of defenseless contemporary everyday life.

The asanas of yoga with their breathing and their strong interpretation in a naturalist key are developed in space to increase strength and flexibility, animal locomotion triggers body intelligence through the experimentation of movement in freedom while acrobatic work prepares the body, from alone or in pairs, to perform movements of great control and balance by developing trust and abandonment skills. The key word of Zoé Animal Yoga® is Will, the will necessary to (re) enter into relationship with the original Body, discover and face your limits, becoming tireless and unstoppable! The Greek term zoé indicates the life of living beings, understood as life energy that cyclically regenerates, unlike the bios, which defines the biological life of an individual, limited in time. The training adventure of Zoé Animal Yoga® is articulated in 5 interdependent phases representing the flow of a single process of conscious re-appropriation of one’s global and primordial corporeity up to its reintegration in the natural context of origin:

TABULA RASA To remember you need to forget. This first phase has the dual objective, on the one hand, of trying to extinguish the pre-existing motor patterns resulting from mono-referential physical practical habits and, on the other, of eliminating the incorrect perception of one’s superficial bodily feeling. To do this, these empty movement patterns and the expressive limits they produce will first be highlighted and then the attention will be shifted from what is the external and deceptive muscle activation in search of the most internal and authentic joint movements through the deep relaxation of the entire myofascial system.

SENTIO ERGO SUM So I feel I am. In this phase we will become aware of the work done in the previous phase in order to internalize it and understand it through a renewed bodily perception. We will focus on the expressive process of movement and on the genesis of the movement from the center of the body with the consequent deployment in the peripheral areas using fully the articular tracks and the spine so that we reappropriate a correct connection between the axial and appendicular skeleton.

ECCE HOMO I remember. The awareness progressively developed in the previous phases leads to reminiscence and re-appropriation of archetypal motor patterns allowing the Body to remember and recognize its natural origin and the expressive possibilities that have been denied to it by the widespread artificial ingenuity. Memory resurfaces, bringing with it evident increased perceptual loads to the point of arrogant demands for a new feeling that brings into being recognition and respect for one’s animal origin.

ANIMALIS that gives life, animated. The truth, the only one. Nothing has changed in our body and in its biological, psychological, biomechanical and physical instances and needs. Our functional anatomy does not know and should not know other expressive languages other than those that are internal homeostatic processes and the stresses of the external environment. Recognizing oneself as an Animal allows man to (re) understand himself as part of the whole living without advancing unfounded hypotheses of superiority typical of that man who has lost his contact with the natural world that represents him. Movement now can then go back to being a process in becoming fluid and natural through which to express the fundamental physical qualities of the human being: strength, flexibility, endurance, speed, mobility.

POST FAIRY RESURVE Dare: demand that Life make you the gift of your Rebirth. Through the animal movement the Body in its psychophysical totality is reborn in its ancient, original pure and mobile features, those of a Transformative Body in its expressive potential. The primordial as a point of return therefore and not of arrival. The free experimentation of movement can now enter the final phase and pass definitively on the plane that represents it: the territory of nature, with its varied stimuli and the solicitations of its elements ready to offer the Body all the possibilities for it to return to being in intimate contact with the Whole.

My educational history was born from the passion for the continuous search for a Theoretical and Practical Synthesis, a Natural synthesis. A dynamic principle through which to combine the physical and mental dimension in a single Body to be (re) integrated into the totality of Nature. Microcosm and Macrocosm
This research follows a twofold path. On the one hand there is my theoretical training path through a deep, and always open, study of: Philosophy, Linguistics, Anthropology, Sociology, Psychology, Symbology. I then followed a course in Traditional Chinese Medicine and Shiatsu.

On the other there is my path of practical experience of different movement disciplines and body experience: swimming, free climbing, acrobatics, contemporary dance, capoeira, animal flow, primal movement, trance dance, yoga (hatha yoga, vinyasa yoga , yin yoga, tantra yoga, Vietnamese kung-fu Lao Long Dao).
I am an Expert Registered Yoga Teacher (E-RYT-500): a Yoga teacher (Hatha Yoga, Vinyasa Yoga, Yin Yoga, founder of Zoé Animal Yoga®) and Meditation expert, certified and officially authorized, as teacher and trainer, by the world leading organization Yoga Alliance © which provides specific and rigorous training regarding all aspects of Yoga from philosophical-ethical-symbolic to scientific-anatomical-psychological-terepeutic ones.

During my long and continuous training I had the good fortune to study with the best national and international masters of contemporary Yoga. I became a Registered Yoga Teacher 200 (RYT 200) with Jacopo Ceccarelli, founder of Anukalana Yoga and pioneer of Acro Yoga in Italy; and subsequently a Registered Yoga Teacher 500 (RYT 500) through the training of Roberto Milletti, founder of Odaka Yoga, world leader in contemporary Yoga. I constantly update myself by following the specific training and training of the most important international teachers of modern multidisciplinary Yoga: Dylan Werner, Ashley Galvin, Tamara Levinson-Campos, Briohny Smyth, Patrick Beach, MacKenzie Miller. My body research on human and natural movement was extended and perfected by participating in the formations of Animal Flow® by Mike Fitch, Evolve Move Play® by Rafe Kelley, Gold Medal Bodies® by Ryan C. Hurst and Vahva Fitness®. Later I expanded my training on functional training by acquiring the title of Functional Crosstrainer by studying with the Accademia Italiana Fitness® and participating in Athlean-x® courses.

I have been practicing and deepening the study of Yoga, movement and the body for 15 years and this is why I decided to codify my specific teaching and practice style: I called it Zoé Animal Yoga®.
Since 2016 I have been enabled by Yoga Alliance © as a trainer for future Yoga teachers and as a provider of continuing education training services for teachers through the YACEP® (Yoga Alliance Continuing Education Provider) membership.

The school, Zoé Animal Yoga® – RYS 200, creates and offers intensive and experiential training courses in contact with Nature through which to experiment and learn the most advanced techniques necessary for modern teaching in the atmosphere of secular and primordial Yoga of the origins. The ZOE asd association in which I work as a teacher and trainer is recognized by Coni, Csen and Uisp
