A week of deep purification and daily yoga practice with Dr. Lal and Melanie Georgiou. Both Melanie and Dr. Lal are regulars of Yoga in Salento coming back every year.

27 June – 4 July

Description of the retreat

Dr. Lal practices ayurveda medicine in his clinic in Kerala, Melanie teaches ashtanga yoga from her Shala in Switzerland and runs retreats internationally. After their excellent first collaboration last year, Yoga in Salento is happy to host them again this year to help you establish a shift in your practice and day-to-day life.

The afternoons are devoted to Ayurvedic consultations and treatments. During your personal consultation, Dr. Lal will determine your natural constitution (prakriti) and will inform you of the imbalances in your body whilst trying to identify the root causes (vikriti). The examination of the pulse, tongue, skin and eyes will provide additional information. You will be asked specific questions about your lifestyle habits, the state of your digestion and elimination (stool, urine, sweat), your diet, your sleep, your mental and emotional state, your medical history, etc.

At the end of this interview, Dr. Lal will establish an individual care program of ayurvedic treatments and will give you advice for your everyday life. The detox will be supported by daily yoga practice and a healthy vegetarian diet. If you wish, you can also undergo a full panchakarma.

The days open gently with a meditation and different soft pranayama to achieve deep concentration. An asana practice in the traditional Mysore style follows.

We get together again at the end of the day or in the evening for more restorative practices, reflection and sharing.

Born in Switzerland, Melanie is a dedicated practitioner of Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga and Vipassana meditation. Discipline and commitment have shaped her life from an early age – Melanie first followed a professional ballet training for 10 years and after repeated injuries, she discovered Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga with Ryan Spielman while living in London. Very passionate from the beginning, she diligently embraced the method and by coming back to the practice every day without expectation, the process of transformation had begun. Over time little changes slowly built up into big life changes. Melanie eventually left London for a 3 year journey with a focus on practice and study of Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga. This journey brought her to India, Thailand, Bali and Australia where she finally found the teacher she was looking to practice with in Dena Kingsberg. Her faith in the wisdom of the system keeps growing as her commitment to the practice has helped her open her heart and transform her life. Melanie now teaches from her shala in Switzerland and has been holding workshops and retreats internationally for the past 7 years.
